Workshop: Coping With Trauma Symptoms |
Trauma, defined as any "experience that leaves you feeling helpless, hopeless, confused, or powerless," can have a powerful impact on the brain and body and is often a factor in the development and progression of addiction.
In this informative workshop, learn how a traumatic experience such as abuse, abandonment, accidents/injury, or death of a loved one can lead to anxiety, depression, dissociation, and compulsive behaviours. Learn to recognize the symptoms of post-traumatic stress, as well as valuable skills and techniques for coping with triggers.
Skills covered will include relaxation techniques, calming and grounding techniques, mindfulness skills, and strategies for coping with numbing and dissociation. Also included is basic information on important self-care habits which promote recovery from traumatic stress.
Participants will be guided through a series of relaxation and grounding exercises, and will be provided with a detailed handout outlining additional techniques and resources.
